The pop girls stay saving 2020 for us all…
From Lady Gaga to Dua Lipa to Ariana Grande to Kylie Minogue to Little Mix to Miley Cyrus (just to name a few), the girls have truly kept us plenty fed all year long with endless music releases.
Next up to continue pushing on with her 2020 reign is Rina Sawayama.
It’s evidently not enough that the London-based pop songstress already blessed our unworthy ears with her long-awaited debut SAWAYAMA, one of the best pop releases this year. No. She had to go ahead and give us even more.
Specifically at the moment, “LUCID,” her brand new single set to appear on the deluxe edition of SAWAYAMA, due out next week on December 4. Alongside “LUCID,” the deluxe edition will also include new songs “We Out Here” and “Bees & Honey,” as well as a whole slew of remixes, acoustic renditions of album cuts and Rina‘s cover of the 1975‘s “Love It If We Made It.”
The track was crafted alongside BloodPop®, who’s worked extensively with Gaga on basically all of Chromatica. So yes, you can thank him for “Rain On Me,” “911,” “Sour Candy,” “Alice” and so on.
“It’s about living a different life through dreaming, whether it’s to be with the dream girl or to be the dream girl,” Rina said in a statement. “Me and Lauren Aquilina wrote this together on the floor of my tiny rented living room back in early 2018. BloodPop® sent us the beat and the melody flowed out so easily that I remember at one point I started hoovering cos I knew this would be easy to write lol. I’ve kept this song secret for two years so I’m so excited to finally release it to the world! 2020’s been a tough year so I wanted to finish it off with a dance bop to take us into a more hopeful 2021.”
And that’s preciously what she’s done with “LUCID,” provided a joyous dance-pop escape packed to the brim with pulsating beats, full-bodied vocals and infectious melodies.
“Come be my stranger in the dark/ Don’t need nobody in my arms/ Got my imagination running wild/ It’s all that I can do/ Lucid dreams, lucid dreams ’bout you…,” Rina chants before diving into a drop of pulsating bliss, not entirely unlike Gaga and BloodPop®‘s “Rain On Me.”
They’re soul sisters in song form. Another welcome pop diva-sized dance distraction. Thank you, Rina.
“LUCID” is available to stream on all digital platforms now!
