It’s The Weeknd‘s year and he isn’t planning on going anywhere anytime soon…
His latest record, After Hours, is already one of the best releases of 2020: Between “Heartless,” the unstoppable “Blinding Lights,” and my personal fave “In Your Eyes” — the record’s right on track to snatch all the awards in 2021.
Now, there’s another major cut to add to the mix: “Over Now” with Calvin Harris.
Yes, Mega-hit-maker Clavin Harris, who’s provided us with countless gems with A-list collaborators over the past few years, has teamed up with the R&B crooner for a little groove on the dance floor – and to no one’s surprise, they make for a killer combo in the studio.
“Over Now” is an incredibly casual, laid-back disco groove destined to become one of the summer’s late top contender: Gliding across shimmering strings, slick guitar riffs and a light electronica pulsation, The Weeknd lays down his velvety smooth, inviting vocals across the post break-up throb. “‘Cause it’s over now, oh yeah/ Don’t get too confused, girl, it’s over now, oh yeah, uh/ No comin’ back around, baby/ Nothin’ left to lose, girl, it’s over now (Oh yeah, yeah)…,” he croons.
It’s Calvin‘s Funk Wav Sounds brought into 2020, basically. I’m here for it!
