Pride Month may be over, but that isn’t stopping me from celebrating the latest and greatest in queer music all year long!
Today, I present the July edition of Queer Necessities, my monthly LGBTQ-driven playlist where I catch you up on the newest releases by queer musicians and fierce allies. The cover star this month is NYC’s rising pop sensation MERLOT in celebration of the release of their comeback single, “The Fall.”
“When I wrote ‘The Fall,’ I was just really in my feelings about a guy, and even though I knew it wouldn’t work out I just wanted to kind of incapsulate that moment of pure bliss and complete infatuation,” MERLOT told Jon ALi.
It’s been almost a year since MERLOT released their sophomore track, “Sunrise,” they took a bit of a hiatus to focus on themselves: “I did take a while away from the limelight haha, mostly to work on myself and my art – but I’m extremely excited about my next release that isn’t that far off! I can’t say too much, but it is definitely a change of pace and tempo. I wanted to switch things up from my dance-record status.”
This month’s selections also include Victoria Monét, J. Scott, MNEK, Knights of Zion, Monét X Change, Nimmo, Vardaan Arora, Trapcry, Jaewynn, Dai Burger, Kidd Kenn, Ripparachie, Michael Love Michael, Terrell, Shea Couleé, Reece, Rodney Chrome, Shy Lennox, CHAV, Keaton Dekker, David Blank, Auden, Shamir, Sellah, Lazarus Lynch, Fab The Duo, Ian Isiah and much more.
