Ms. Jackson is back… right now, not tomorrow!
Fresh from a non-stop touring schedule, festival runs and receiving a string of accolades, Janet Jackson announced on Sunday night (August 12) that she’s officially ready to drop new music on us with the release of the much-buzzed new single, “Made For Now” with Daddy Yankee!
The Harmony Samuels-production, which serves as the first taste of fresh material from Miss Jackson-If-Ya-Nasty since the release of 2015’s Unbreakable, sees the legend turning the focus on us — or really, the world, supplying some much-needed encouragement across a joyous, Afro-Caribbean-meets-pop soundscape.
“We’re made for now/ Not tomorrow/ Made for now/ Look around…,” Janet happily declares throughout. It may be projection on my end, but the timing of “Made For Now” hardly feels accidental in a world of noise and conflict, which has become all but unavoidably stressful and embarrassing: it’s a love letter that carries a similar feel to her very own “Together Again,” encouraging us all to enjoy our lives and seize opportunities today, not worry or wait until tomorrow.
The addition of Daddy Yankee is really a smart one too, considering Latin-Pop is very on trend… she just might have another hit on her hands. Wouldn’t that be something?
As for its accompanying Brooklyn shot visual, it sees Janet transporting us to a neighborhood dance party filled with cameos from a multitude of international dancers from Ghana, Nigeria, Grenada, Trinidad and the US. All of whom who were hand selected by Janet and her longtime Creative Director Gil Duldulao. The looks are non-stop, Janet is magnetic, and oh yes, there’s choreography ladies and gents.
What else can I say? Janet Jackson is physically incapable of letting us down. I love everything about this. Musical medicine.
