MØ has returned with her first new solo single of the year: “Nostalgia“!
As the title suggests, the track – produced by Stint and Kurtis McKenzie – is a thrilling, dance-driven gem that manages to conjure up all those feelings its title promises. MØ‘s feeling nostalgic for a past love.
“I remember the first time I was in love / It was all the way back in 1997 / I stole my mama’s cell phone yes, and I was turning it up / Tracked down your number boy I was so in love, I thought I was in heaven,” she sings in the first verse on-top of driving tropical-infused beats.
For awhile now it’s felt like MØ had settled into a signature sonic lane but this instantly feels like a welcome and fresh switch-up. “I know you’re hurting, I know your heart, it aches/ For someone’s lovin’, ooh ooh/ But the sun shines when the cloud breaks,” she cries out on the sunny, chant-ready hook. “I know you’re hurting, I know your heart, it aches/ For someone’s lovin’, ooh ooh/ But the sun shines when the cloud breaks.”
The lyric video that accompanies it also hits hard with the nostalgia, as it features several adorable baby pictures of MØ, which were curated by her parents. “Shout out Stint and all people involved in the makings of this tune!!!,” MØ said in a statement. “AND shout out to my old friends, friends and family who make an appearance in this little karaoke flashback video curated by my lovely parents!!”
