Chvrches are officially back with their first new single in two years: “Get Out“!
The track marks their first release since their 2015 sophomore album Every Open Eye, which brought us gems like “Leave A Trace,” “Never Ending Circles,” “Clearest Blue” and “Bury It,” – and was premiered on Annie Mac‘s BBC Radio 1 show earlier today (January 31).
“Get Out” is was one of the many cuts they worked on with recent Grammy winner for Producer Of the Year Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, etc.), leaving the impression that the talented Scottish trio are about to lean towards a much bigger pop sound. And yeah, although it’s true they’ve come back a bit more sophisticated and sleeker than ever, “Get Out” (not to be confused by the Oscar-nominated Jordan Peele film of the same name) mostly sounds like signature Chvrches.
“Get out, get out/ Get, get, get out/ Get, get, get out of here,” lead singer Lauren Mayberry shouts throughout over crashing drums and buzzing synths. “Can we get out, get out/ Get, get, get out/ Get, get, get out of here?” The song is kind of giving me “The Mother We Share” vibes, but with a much more precise pop effort – I LOVE!
“Working with Greg was so different to what we’d done before, but it also felt so comfortable and like he’d been in our band forever,” Lauren said in a statement. “He doesn’t try to make you write a certain kind of song. He just listens and then Jedi puppet masters the best work out of you. The opening synth riff of ‘Get Out‘ was the first thing to emerge on our first day in the studio with him.”
