It’s a good week to be a Kylie Minogue fan!
Within the last few days, the Australian pop icon has revealed the cover art and tracklist for her upcoming album titled Golden – her first non-Christmas studio album in four years – and today, she’s just announced the official release date… April 6th!
The Golden era kicks off with the much-teased lead single “Dancing,” crafted by Kylie alongside producer Sky Adams and songwriter Amy Wadge, whose penned many songs with Ed Sheeran, including his hit song “Thinking Out Loud” for which she won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
And like the pair of cowboy boots she’s fiercely rocking in the cover art suggests, she’s indeed gone a little bit country. Blame Lady Gaga‘s Joanne and everyone who followed: Miley Cyrus, Kesha, and Justin Timberlake.
“Dancing” might be a little more country and little less electro-pop with its guitar-laced, folky-esque fusion — but it really doesn’t differ too far from signature Kylie either: It’s a super cute, euphoric little taste of joy; sparkly and sweet like the bulk of her discography. “Can’t stand still/ I won’t slow down/ When I go out, I wanna go out dancing/ Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah/ When I go out, I wanna go out dancing.”
So yeah, “Dancing” does sound a little Avicii “Wake Me Up“-like, but its foundation is truly classic Kylie almost immediately upon first listen – especially in that chorus! Kylie Minogue has always known how to rule the dance floor, she’s just ruling the square “Dancing” floor this time around – and it’s certainly no exception.
“I promised my fans that I would be putting my heart and soul into this record. And I stayed true to my word. I was able to do that, which was challenging and fun and rewarding. And it’s ended up with a…different direction, for sure. But, essentially, I’d still say it’s very much a Kylie record,” Kylie said in a statement. “Lyrically, ‘Dancing‘ is really interesting. It’s, I guess on the surface, about dancing and going out and having a good time, and then it’s also about going out at the end and having had a good time. Living life to the fullest, trying to shine whenever you can; I know life’s difficult, life presents all sorts of hurdles for us but we try to dance through that when we can.”
