Fifth Harmony Go Harder On Skrillex-Produced Cut, ‘Angel’

Fifth Harmony promised to keep lovin’ us down, down, down with their Gucci Mane-assisted bop “Down” at the start of the summer.

But it turns out that there are indeed some things a little love can’t fix in the land of Fifth Harmony. Who said they were angels?

Fresh off the unveiling of the tracklist and artwork for their upcoming third album, the ladies – Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani Kordei – have dropped a brand new track called, “Angel“!

Angel” is the second song (and, first pre-order grat track) from their self-titled LP (due out August 25), produced by Justin Bieber hit-makers Poo Bear and Skrillex. And unlike “Down,” this one’s a whole lot less lovey-dovey: It’s all about the girls owning up to their imperfections, but making no apologies for it in spite of everything — a self-empowerment anthem, yes, with the same kind of fiesty sass you’d come to expect from the ladies of 5H.

Who said I was an angel?/ Who said I was an angel? (Oh, yeah)/ When you look at me, what do you see?/ Open your eyes, I’m more brilliant than you’ll ever be/ Who said I was an angel?,” the girls question across the hard-hitting, hip-hop beats. The most interesting part of the production comes immediately before the final chorus, as the track suddenly dives into a brief, stuttering breakdown of glitchy vocals and electronic beats.

It’s a more fierce, in-your-face Fifth Harmony and I’m totally here for it. What do you guys think?

“Angel” by Fifth Harmony is also available on Apple Music and Spotify now!
