Lost Kings officially taking things to the next level on this week’s Song of the Week!
I haven’t properly written about the dynamic DJ duo – Robert Gainley and Dr. No – yet, although they’ve been making the rounds on my gym playlists for a few months now thanks their addictive pop-laced originals like “Bad” and “You” and their already-existing glorious edits for the likes of Disclosure, Rihanna, Vance Joy, Imagine Dragons, Echosmith, and G-Eazy. They’ve laid down the ground work and it’s truly paid off.
How so? Well, the pair have recently announced that they’ve made the jump from Spinnin’ Records to the monstrous RCA Records, and in celebration have just released their first major label single: “Phone Down” feat. Emily Warren! And it’s undeniably a soon-to-be-smash y’all!
“Why don’t you put that fucking phone down?/ Darling, so we could be alone now/ Can’t you just be here when the lights go out/ Why don’t you ever put that phone down?/ What could be so goddamn important/ That it can’t wait until the morning?/ You got me right here with my clothes off now/ Why don’t you put that fucking phone down?“
Argument between me and my boyfriend last night before bed? Why, yes! Okay, not really, but haven’t we’ve all been here!?!?
Yupp! While Emily‘s way-too-real, singalong-friendly chorus serves as a proper infectious topline anyone with a smartphone can relate to, it’s the marriage of the Lost Kings‘ tropical-laced piano chords and wavering synths that make this one a true radio killer.
It’s the anthem of our generation – Get into it!
