This is my game and you better come to play. . . At last! After keeping us “Cool” all summer long, our beloved Demi Lovato is back at it again with “Confident,” the title track and second official single off her upcoming studio album, which is due out on October 16th.
The song’s a tune, for sure — produced by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Ilya Salmanzadeh – “Confident” is a empowering, electro-pop-rock rush of Demi‘s signature powerful yelps, full of sass and sexual and confident demands for your undivided attention. Demi‘s way more aggressive in her come-on game this time around — there’s no hidden undertone on this one. She’s straight up telling you: “I used to hold my freak back now I’m letting go/ I make my own choice/ Bitch, I run this show.” YES QUEEN – TELL EM’!
Really though, it’s all about that chorus: “What’s wrong with being, what’s wrong with being/ What’s wrong with being confident? (Ah ha).” It’s the kind of crashing, almighty chorus that sucks the air out the room and makes you want to rip your clothes off, all while a whole bunch of dancers dressed as soldiers stomp around and giant bursts of flames go off on stage. (Actually, that needs to happen. Am I right?)
Demi isn’t toeing the line between post-Disney princess and full-fledged pop queen anymore. She’s completely owning it and I LOVE it!
