Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta may have taken a little hiatus to get married and reunite with his old band Midtown, but he hasn’t forgotten about us just yet! The 34-year-old singer-songwriter is now back in action with his mates and slowly preparing the release of their fifth studio album, which is due out early next year via Fueled by Ramen. Here we have the official lead single from the upcoming LP, “Never Been In Love” featuring Icona Pop, a joyous and upbeat party anthem produced and written alongside John Ryan and Wallpaper. “What I really wanted to do for this new record is I really wanted to draw an inspiration from,” Gabe told EW. “I was listening to a lot of George Michael and a lot of like early ’90s U.K. artists and there was really this era of time in that period where all these bands first started experimenting with break beats and electronic music. So I really wanted to draw an inspiration from there.” The girls of Icona do a good job of delivering their usual shouty, sing-along goodness to the song and overall it sounds like a nice blend of both of their sounds.
