New year, new bops!
That’s right, it’s time to refresh Queer Necessities, my monthly LGBTQ-focused playlist where I catch you up on the latest releases by rising queer talent and fierce allies.
The cover star this month is L.A-based talent Michael Medrano, the self-proclaimed “Disco Dad” who has been serving up non-stop pop gems for a little over three years now.
Michael kicked off his 2021 with a brand new single straight out the gate called “Sugar,” a silky, sensual and strut-ready collaboration with Dance Yourself Clean that keeps his disco-pop trajectory moving forward mercifully.
“‘Sugar‘ was written through the lens of fantasy. I wanted to turn a song about a simple one-and-done hook up into something more fantastical and memorable,” Michael Medrano told Jon Ali in a statement. “The first thing I wrote was that catchy ‘touch me like a pornstar’ hook; from there, the rest of the song shaped into a total escapist anthem.”
“I think you’re gonna see a huge change in the way I do things in 2021,” Michael continued. “I’m finally working on my project (multiple, actually), I have an amazing team behind me that really believes in my artistry — overall 2021 feels really transformative and I’m manifesting huge things. I think you’ll wanna stick around for the ride!”
There’s plenty more where “Sugar” came from so get familiar with her name now if you haven’t already! This month’s selections also include new singles from Brandon Colbein, MRSHLL, nicopop., Cakes da Killa, Trapcry, Siena Liggins, TWIN XL, Delia Dane, YVES, Blest Jones and much more!
