Happy New Year my loves!
It is now the year 2021, which means it’s time to buckle up for another year of new eras from some of our fave pop stars. Kicking things off in week one is none other than under-appreciated pop princess: Miss Zara Larsson, who has just dropped her brand new single “Talk About Love” featuring Young Thug, the latest from her upcoming album Poster Girl, due out on March 5th.
2020 may have not been her biggest year, but the 23-year-old Swedish songstress made good on keeping us satisfied with three solid singles throughout the year – from her summer throb with Kygo and Tyga
“Like It Is,” to her “WOW” re-release thanks to Netflix’s Work It, to “Love Me Land,” one of my absolute favorite releases of 2020. It deserved more, but I that way about most of her releases.
Hopefully, 2021 will turn things around for little Miss Larsson. “Talk About Love,” produced Mike Sabath (Meghan Trainor, Little Mix, Madison Beer, etc.), finds her slipping into something more R&B-laced and trap-tinged as she urges her lover to live in the present moment.
“I don’t wanna talk about love/ I don’t wanna talk about love/ I just wanna keep us right here in the moment/ Why you gotta go get lost in emotion?/ I don’t wanna talk about love…,” she declares across the space-y production, bringing Ariana Grande vibes to mind.
While the song doesn’t necessarily scream #1 smash on first listen, I can appreciate it for it’s subtlety – it’s a smooth and sensual ride, full of on-trend production and ear-worm melodies. Zara‘s never been the type of girl to stick to one genre, she likes to bounce around a bit in that sense and that’s exactly what she’s showcasing here.
I’m looking forward to hearing what else she has in store for us for album #2. This will do for now.
