Queer Necessities: Jon ALi’s August 2020 Playlist, Featuring ALEWYA & More!

Before the summer comes to a close, I’ve got another playlist full of the hottest new releases to help you close out this season!

Today, I present the August edition of Queer Necessities, my monthly LGBTQ-driven playlist where I catch you up on the latest releases by fierce queer talent and fierce allies. The cover star this month is serving up as a bit of an introduction: Meet ALEWYA!

ALEWYA is an emerging London-based singer-songwriter, producer and artist. Born in Saudi Arabia to an Egyptian-Sudanese father and an Ethiopian mother, the rising British singer-songstress recently released her debut single “Sweating” via Because London Records, following her recent feature on Little Simz‘s track “where’s my lighter.”

The track is instant from the very first play, a sensual, melodic dance throb: Imagine yourself 3am in an industrial neon-lit club (in 2022 maybe cuz like pandemic lol) intertwined with sweaty bodies and liberation. That’s the vibe! “‘Sweating‘ is about the feeling when chemistry happens between two people,” ALEWYA told Jon ALi in a statement. “In love, power and rage. Those that feel it know it.”

Remember her name! This month’s selections also include Jeremy McClain, Victoria Monét, KAYTRANADA, Honey Dijon, VINCINT, Vardaan Arora, Reece, Davy Boi, MK xyz, vincethealien, Oseph Parks and much more.

Subscribe to the playlist now and support these artists!
