Yes, they’ve done it again.
During this very uncertain time, music is, and truly will always be, an essential form of escapism – and this week, talented 4-piece The Aces (Cristal Ramirez, McKenna Petty, Katie Henderson and Alisa Ramirez) provided one of those vital escapes with their new relatable throbber “My Phone Is Trying To Kill Me,” the follow-up to previously-released singles “Daydream” and “Lost Angeles,” all of which are set to appear on their forthcoming album Under My Influence, out on June 12.
That title alone just about sums it up, no?
Written by The Aces alongside hit-makers Justin Tranter (Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande) and produced by Zach Skelton (Jonas Brothers, Shawn Mendes), “My Phone Is Trying To Kill Me” is an angsty and timely examination of the current world we’re living in, constantly connected by social media and an ever-present screen in our hands.
“Fucked up/ drinking, smoking / Trying to live in the moment / I check that screen just one more time/ My phone is trying to kill me…,” the ladies chant on the hook. The earworm is signature The Aces, honest and relatable lyrcisim all told through the lens of euphoric indie-pop.
Under My Influence is quickly shaping up to be just as good as their stellar debut. They’re three for three now. Is there no end to this? I sure hope not…
