Little Mix Return To Their Roots On New Single, ‘Break Up Song’!
The ladies of Little Mix are back at it again!
Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall are back doing what they do best: break up anthems!
“Break Up Song,” the talented UK foursome’s lead single from their forthcoming studio album, is a bit of a sonic shift/return to form in a sense, playing like an effortless blend of “Black Magic” meets “Shout Out To My Ex.” The Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne with Kamille, Frank Nobel and Linus Nordstrom crafted bop supplies a decidedly ’80’s gloss, filled with hand clapping, foot stomping shout-along hooks (“I’m gonna dance! Under the lights!“), sweet harmonies and summery synths.
“So tonight, I’ll sing another, another break-up song/ So turn it up, let it play on and on and on and on/ For all of the times they screwed us over/ Let it play on and on and on/ Just another break-up song…,” the girls declare across the chorus.
Aside from being an all-around good ear worm, “Break Up Song” does the job required of a lead single by an established pop act: It’s a solid, catchy reintroduction to the pop world and a pretty spot-on representation of Little Mix‘s signature sound, given a fresh gloss for 2020.
