Khalid is cruising into the new year with brand new music!
Following the release of “Up All Night” at the tail end of 2019, the “Talk” hit-maker returns with nothing but smooth, throwback ’00’s pop-R&B vibes on his latest, “Eleven“!
The track, which features hidden ab-libs from Craig David, finds him smoothly singing sweet nothings across a chilled-out production that is serving all sorts of millennial pop (or “Y2K Pop,” if you will) shades, bringing everything from Aaliyah to Usher to yes, Craig David to mind.
During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Khalid opened up about the track: “I love making music you can drive to, and I feel like ‘Eleven‘ is the perfect track to just play on your stereo, grip the wheel of your car, and just go where the wind takes you,” he said. “That’s what this song makes me feel like. This one I wanted to do something different.”
“My mom lives, breathes, sleeps R&B music, so I really feel like this is the ode to just people who came before me, and I really love the song,” Khalid continued. “It reminds me of that Timbaland era and Aaliyah and music just felt so good.”
I have a sweet spot for Khalid, and he’s certainly hitting it here. LOVE!
