In case you haven’t realized, we’re currently in the midst comeback week…
Kesha is another one of our fave pop divas whose ready to jump back into the swing of things. Earlier this week, the “Praying” hit-maker announced that she’s dropping her new studio album, called High Road, at the top of the new year on January 10th.
The announcement came accompanied with a trailer that includes audio snippets of songs from the upcoming record, as well as clips that look like they could be from brand new music videos.
“I feel like this time around I reconnected to the unrestrained joy and wildness that’s always been a part of me — and in this process I have had the most fun I’ve ever had making a record,” Kesha reveals in the teaser trailer. “I hope my fans love it as much as I loved making it — and know I always have y’all in mind.”
Our first taste of High Road comes in the form of lead single, “Raising Hell,” a boisterous anthem packed with caption-ready lyricism, Big Freedia samples and a splash of gospel. “Oh, if you couldn’t tell/ We can always find the trouble, we don’t need no help/ Singing oh, mama raised me well/ But I don’t wanna go to Heaven without raising hell (Get in)…,” she declares.
,It’s the perfect sonic bridge between Rainbow (see “Woman“) and the fucks-free attitude of her early material. She’s picking up right where she left off, but still leaving us wanting more.
I think it’s safe to say that “Raising Hell” won’t be the strongest offering we hear from this era – just a solid sampling of what Kesha has in store for us.
