But it’s not always about bodies being close, staying optimistic and the good parts about love in Ellie‘s world.
“Flux” is the second song from her upcoming fourth studio album. And unlike the lead single, this one’s a whole lot less lovey-dovey: This one explores the conflicting emotions of holding onto a relationship when you know it’s time to let go.
“I’m still in love with the idea of loving you/ It’s a state of flux/ I just keep holding on/ But it’s not enough…,” Ellie sings on the hook with the gorgeous accompaniment of piano and strings that allows her angelic vocals to soar effortlessly above as the production intensifies.
The song instantly feels like a genuine piece of Ellie‘s soul. Sometimes the power of a song lies in its personal story, and that’s exactly what’s happening here.
“‘Flux‘ is a song that I wrote entirely from the heart that seemed to capture how I felt about not ever being able to let go of a past love, even though it was over for a reason,” Ellie said in a statement. “I feel like I am in a constant state of change and upheaval and it makes me unable to root myself and get over things easily. On this record I found myself taking inspiration from different relationships and stages in my life.”
