Thank the pop heavens for the return of Carly Rae Jepsen!
After getting back on her beat with “Party for One” at the tail end of 2018, Carly has returned to us today (February 27) with not one, but two new singles: “Now That I Found You” and “No Drug Like Me” – a double dose of appetizer tracks that are both set to be featured on herE·MO·TION-follow-up album, which is set for release later this year.
“‘Now That I Found You‘ is about the high you get when a new love starts to change your life. It’s like the rush, rush, rush is better than any drug,” Carly said in a statement. “Which leads me to ‘No Drug Like Me‘ which is a promise I made to love in general. That when the good stuff lands my way I’ll always try to be vulnerable and brave and show all of myself – ‘If you make me feel in love then I’ll blossom for you’.”
“Now That I Found You” is signature CRJ greatness, which is to say it’s super sparkly, feel-good and joyously earnest. Yet again, Carly‘s channeled that love-struck feeling of falling for someone in song form with that instant rush of a chorus: “Don’t give it up, don’t say it hurts/ ‘Cause there’s nothing like this feeling, baby/ Now that I found you…“
On the second track however, “No Drug Like Me,” Carly switches it up a bit and channels her sensual side over a synth-heavy pulse. Like favored deep cuts “LA Hallucinations” and “Warm Blood,” it’s darker and more intoxicating than your standard CRJ affair.
Both songs are solid but I’d be lying If I didn’t say they didn’t already feel pretty familiar. Are we about to E·MO·TION II?
