NIKO is a singer-songwriter born and raised in Milan. After spending some time in the UK working with various music producers in Manchester and London, NIKO has made the move to NYC to launch his solo musical act.
He first popped up on my radar just a few months ago with the release of “The One,” and now I am happy to exclusively premiere “Light My Fire” – the second official taste of what’s to come from the budding star’s upcoming debut EP, slated for release next year.
The track is indeed a cover of the iconic song by The Doors that was later reinvented by José Feliciano in 1968. “‘Light My Fire‘ is one of my all-time favorite songs,” NIKO said in a statement. “I wanted to reinterpret it in a modern way, but still be true to the romantic essence of the song, that talks about a deep connection between two people.”
NIKO‘s “Light My Fire” is more aligned with the soundscape of Feliciano‘s version, bringing both a classic and modern take while marrying elements of dreamy ’80’s-like synths and infectious acoustics with a romantic and sensual vocal delivery.
NIKO‘s emotive vocals are especially intriguing here, tenderly fluttering across the production like a young George Michael – one of his main inspirations. Get into it below!
