Robyn‘s Honey, her long-awaited first album in eight years, is easily one of the best releases of 2018 – as is the title track from the project, which now has an official music video.
It’s directed by Robyn‘s longtime partner Max Vitali, who previously directed her videos for “Be Mine,” “Call Your Girlfriend” and “Dancing On My Own,” among others. For “Honey” they’ve taken a similar approach to “Dancing On My Own,” filming Robyn and a room full of people clubbing ’til dawn among fog and neon lights.
According to the press release, Robyn “wanted the process of making the video to also embody her mantra of bringing people together and communicating in person.” The music video was filmed in London and stars Robyn and an array of her real-life fans, coming to Clapton/London from the UK, the US, Sweden, France, Norway and Denmark. “It is a testament to love, sensuality and the loose feeling during the after-hours of a great party.”
It’s a serious of sensuous closeups that perfectly captures and embodies the very feeling of the song – I LOVE!
“As with any video, or anything in life at all in fact, it’s all about having great people around,” director Max said in a statement. “We had amazing, beautiful people that brought amazing, beautiful energy, both in front of and behind the camera, and I hope that comes across.”
“I was amazed by the warmth and open spirit of the cast,” Robyn added in her statement. “It was lovely to dance with them during the shoot, the energy was so cool. Max and I both wanted this video to feel loose and free and I was just so impressed of how everyone who came to be a part of the shoot just got it and gave it their all.”
