While his Khalid and Halsey-assisted debut single “Eastside” continues to be a rising force – reaching a new peak at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, benny blanco has decided to waste no time dropping more teasers from his upcoming artist project.
Following the release of “I Found You” with Calvin Harris earlier this month, the talented writer-producer drops yet another brand new collaboration, this time with Jessé Rutherford and Swae Lee: “Better To Lie,” a song that makes him feel like he’s “15 at Warped Tour and in a fight with my parents about something I will forget in 24 hours.” Same.
Yupp, “Better to Lie” is all sorts of early ’00’s angsty pop-rock nostalgia, reminiscent of bands like New Found Glory, Taking Back Sunday, Good Charlotte and Simple Plan, dressed up with the right kind of 21st century slick production to hold radio’s attention.
“Sometimes it’s better to lie than say all the things I got on my mind (Yeah, yeah yeah)/ Sometimes I wonder if I’m livin’ my life waiting to die (Yeah, yeah yeah)…,” Jessé solemnly declares at the start of the track, which was co-penned and produced by hit-makers Happy Perez, Ammar Malik, Cashmere Cat and Jacob Kasher.
It’s surely nothing revolutionary, but it leaves an affirming impression that we should expect the unexpected when it comes to this project. benny‘s no one trick pony – Listen below!
