Ariana Grande‘s “thank u, next” music video is finally here!
After teasing the heck out of the highly anticipated visual for over two weeks, the pint-sized Sweetener diva has kept good on her promise and dropped the official Hannah Lux Davis-directed clip for her smash hit, which spends a third straight week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
In it, she pays tribute to some of 2000’s biggest movies – Mean Girls, 13 Going on 30, Legally Blonde, and Bring It On. We get everything from Ariana playing the role of Regina George with the iconic Burn Book, cheerleading routines with her cheer squad for Bring It On, an emotional 13 Going on 30 dream sequence, and Legally Blonde‘s still-everything Bend and Snap dance moment.
The video stars Mean Girls‘ own Jonathan Bennett as Aaron Samuels, Legally Blonde‘s own Jennifer Coolidge as her original character Paulette, Kris Jenner as Ariana‘s mother, Elizabeth Gillies as Cady Heron, Alexa Luria as Karen Smith, Courtney Chipolone as Gretchen Wieners, Troye Sivan, Colleen Ballinger, Gabi DeMartino, and more.
While there’s no actual narrative here, it’s without a doubt pure campy fun to see homages to movies about women and their strong friendships in the context of a song about being happy with yourself, instead of the dependence that comes with being boo’d up. The song was a big ol’ meme to begin with so it’s only fitting that the video would be filled with the forever meme’s themselves. I SAY WIN! “Thank u, next bitch!”
