Proceed with Caution: M.C is back, back, back again!
Four years since the release of Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, the always legendary Mariah Carey returns with her long-awaited fifteenth studio album, Caution – her tightest, strongest and most cohesive effort since The Emancipation of Mimi.
From start to finish, the album creates a great picture of where Mariah Carey‘s career has been and where it is now. There’s a certain maturity in her tight vision that we haven’t seen in recent efforts like Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel and The Elusive Chanteuse; thematically, Caution feels like a return to form. What really keeps the record feeling cohesive is the lyrical content and sleek production – and all it took was 10 tracks. It’s the perfect example of quality over quantity.
The early singles “GTFO,” “With You,” “The Distance” with Ty Dolla $ign and “A No No” hold up in context with the rest. Elsewhere, Slick Rick and Blood Orange‘s Dev Hynes guest on the standout “Giving Me Life,” while the Gunna-assisted “Stay Long Love You” is already proving to be an early favorite upon first listen.
It is by no means 100% perfect, but Caution is undeniably one of Mariah‘s finest moments in years. You will support by streaming, downloading and buying. If the Lambily can get the Glitter soundtrack to go #1 on the iTunes Albums Chart seventeen years after its release, we can give Caution the recognition it deserves. The End.
