Miss Betty Who is back at it again…
After leaving RCA Reocrds and going indie with the release of the Betty Pt. 1 – EP over the summer, the Australian pop princess is ready to get things moving again with the release of her tender new single, “Between You and Me” – the first from her forthcoming third studio record Betty, which will be released February 15, 2019.
“I wanted ‘Between You & Me‘ to come first because it felt so reminiscent of my early singer-songwriter days. When I listen to it, I imagine that 15-year-old me would love this song,” Betty said in a statement of her decision to make this song the lead single. “Especially since it’s about not being able to put into words how you feel when you’re around the person you’re singing to. It’s not a confession of love, it’s a voice in your head narrating your time with them.”
Betty‘s intimate serenade, co-crafted alongside Peter Thomas, JHart and Pretty Sister, finds her laying down all her feels above the simplest/prettiest of acoustic-driven melodies. As it goes on, the song fills out with some subtle elector-pop production but the focus remains entirely on Betty‘s earnest crooning. “Just between you and me/ I can feel something here, wondering if you do, too/ Just between you and me,” she sings on the hook. “Can’t help but feeling we’re acting like lovers do/ Why can’t we just address it?/ Why don’t we start undressin’/ ‘Til there’s nothing between us/ In between us, in between us/ In between you and me?“
“Between You & Me” is less of an evolution in sound and more of a deeper dive into the more mature psyche of Betty Who in 2018. She’s a grown woman – I’m ready for what else she has in store for us!
