Little Mix have been steadily revealing cuts from their fifth studio album, L5, single by single ahead of its release on November 16. So far, we’ve heard the Nicki Minaj-assisted lead single “Woman Like Me” and the feisty “Joan of Arc” – and now we have promo single #3, “Told You So“!
In the tune, the British foursome – comprised of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall – slow things down and comfort a heartbroken friend, insisting that they’re better off without their ex-boyfriend: “To be honest/ His best friend was hotter than him (Yeah)/ His jokes were just lacking content (Yeah)/ But darling, you’re better than/ Someone who lies and cheats to set the scene…,” Leigh-Anne calls out on the second verse.
On the chorus, Little Mix invite said friend over, because no boy can love like your best girl friends can. “Girl, just come round mine tonight/ I’ve got wine and make-up wipes/ I’ll hold you (I’ll hold you), I’ll hold you (I’ll hold you),” the girls softly croon across the gliding acoustics. “We can put the kettle on/ Talk ’bout how he’s not the one/ I told you (I told you)/ But, I’m never gonna say I told you so.”
The song offers up some particularly strong melodies to no one’s surprise, resulting in some rather soothing musical medicine for the broken-hearted.
