This week’s Song of the Week comes from someone I’d like you to get familiar with: Gabe Reali!
I haven’t properly written about the LA-based singer-songwriter yet, although you may remember his single “Warm in the Valley” from when it was featured on the March edition of my Queer Necessities playlist for Billboard Pride.
Gabe’s gearing up to release his debut EP in the new year, and he’s kicking things off with a new single: “Miss Me(?)“
Colored by funky synths and a slick, chilly ’80’s electronic sheen, the anguished kiss-off is pretty immediate from the first listen, showcasing Gabe‘s genuinely soulful chops above a bouncy beat. “Do you miss me, yeah?/ am I still in you head?/ bet you itching for those nights I was still in your bed/ do you miss me, yeah?/ do-do you miss me, yeah?/ in your bed, bed…,” he croons.
“This one’s for all my petty people who wanna show their ex’s what they’re missing,” Gabe said in a statement. “But this song also low key proves I’m a psycho cause I wrote it about someone I was really into and wanted their attention, but also trying my best to ignore them… that’s the tea. Love’s crazy amiright?”
