Cher Lloyd is, at long last, giving it another go. (Again.)
After teasing us with her then-forthcoming comeback record in late July of 2016, the X Factor UK alum debuted her cocky single “Activated.” But, you know the deal — pushbacks, delays, another departure from her record label, and oh yeah, a pregnancy. Yupp, in May of this year, Cher gave birth to her first child with her husband Craig Monk, daughter Delilah-Rae.
Cher makes her welcomed return today (October 19) with a brand new single titled “None Of My Business” — and yeah, this time she means business.
“I’ve waited so long for everyone to hear what I’ve been working so hard on, and ‘None Of My Business’ is a perfect taste of what’s to come,” Cher said in a statement. “I’ve never been more excited to share my new music.”
The cheeky mid-tempo puts Cher‘s vocals at the forefront, drifting along a minimalist, metronome-like melody as she croons about being the other girl. “Damn, I heard that you and her been having problems/ She likes to fight, I guess you both have that in common/ Started at the top, and now you at the bottom/ But baby, this is none of my business,” she assures on the hook.
“None of my Business” is indeed a solid fresh re-start, but too often Cher relies on Instagram speak, as with the cringeworthy lines: “I saw on my feed/ She looks a little like me,” and again on the bridge (“None of my business, haven’t watched your story in four days“). With that said, we must not forget that Cher is still only 25. Instagram speak is expected.
Honestly, I’m just happy to have Cher back. Welcome back mama!
