The rebirth of Havana Brown — born Angelique Meunier — begins now.
The last time we got a legitimate music release from the Australian DJ, she was surrendering to her emotions on her 2016 Dawin-assisted dance throb, “Like Lightning.” Since then, she’s been pretty quite on the music front while keeping her focus mainly on her DJ career.
But she’s finally back, and with an unexpectedly sexy new sound on “Glimpse” featuring Rich The Kid! The “We Run the Night” mini-diva is straying far away from her euphoric, glittery dance-pop roots and instead indulging in a super minimal, super chilly #SomethingMoreUrban banga, which, if anything, feels like an ode to Cassie or Tinashe.
“Bottle after bottle take a sip/ Water on my AP watch it drip/ Think I need a napkin for my wrist/ All my diamonds dripping please don’t slip/ They’re trynna get a glimpse…,” Havana purrs across the atmospheric, finger-snapping, bass-heavy beat.
It’s certainly isn’t what I was expecting to come from a Havana Brown resurgence, but then again, Havana has never been one to stick to just one side of the music pond. It’s an intriguing return… I’m ready for what else she’s got in store.
