I haven’t properly written about Josh Wood yet, although he’s most definitely been included on two of my Queer Necessities playlists for Billboard Pride in past months with his debut soulful slice “Walls” and his addictive collaboration with nicopop, “Elephant.” So, let’s change that.
Over the past few years, the LA-based talent has written for several artists, developed talent for American Idol, America’s Got Talent and The Four, and has landed sync placements under his moniker Kalispell on Grey’s Anatomy, Nashville, and The Mindy Project. He’s no one trick pony…
This year, Josh has decided to shift his focus to a re-introduction/proper lift off with the release of his upcoming 8-track EP, led by his uptempo dance-pop single “Radio (You and I),” this week’s Song of the Week. The track is an airy, feel-good summertime bop that serves as the perfect windows-down-hands-in-the-air type soundtrack for you and that special someone.
The song comes accompanied by a colorful visual directed by viral video creator, Jake Wilson. Throughout the clip, Josh strikes poses and executes slick choreography against vibrant, monochromatic set-ups, evoking the spirit of Destiny’s Child‘s video for “Say My Name.”
“Jake and I both obsess over late ’90s R&B, and we wanted to reflect the different moods when you change the radio, so we thought about ‘Say My Name‘ — the four color schemes, the posing on each beat — it fit the energy of “Radio” perfectly,” Josh explained to Billboard. “I definitely channeled my inner Beyonce.”
