It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from the once inescapable Jason Derulo…
Aside from his 2018 FIFA World Cup Official Anthem with Maluma, “Colors,” the “Want to Want Me” crooner has been a bit quiet on the music front. That changes this week with the release of “Goodbye,” Jason‘s brand new single with David Guetta that sees him reuniting with “Swalla” collaborator Nicki Minaj!
The track, which also features “Mi Gente” hit-maker Willy William, is thankfully not an unfortunate case of too many cooks in the kitchen. It’s an infectious dance-floor throb that samples Andrea Bocelli‘s “Time to Say Goodbye,” and fuses Jason‘s R&B stylings with some Latin and Caribbean dance vibes.
Nicki “Queen” Minaj supplies the familiar hook and adds her own fiery bars. “I pull up on on him, let him put the pipe in / Then I gotta dash like a hyphen/I bring the cake let him lick the icing (icing)/ Some little open-toes Stuart Weitzman…,” she raps. It’s a solid bop, no lie.
“Goodbye” is also set to appear on David‘s recently announced upcoming seventh album, 7, which is due out September 14th. The album also features his previous collaborations with Justin Bieber (“2U“), Sia (“Flames“), Anne-Marie (“Don’t Leave Me Alone“), as well as new collaborations with G-Eazy, Madison Beer, Bebe Rexha, J Balvin, Jess Glynne and Stefflon Don.
