There was something in the air that night…
In case you’ve been out of the loop, the one and only Cher has recorded an ABBA covers album being getting inspired by her role in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, where she sings the 1976′ classic “Fernando” – and it’s coming next month!
That’s right, Cher will be releasing Dancing Queen, a 10-track album of all ABBA hits on September 28. “I’ve always liked ABBA and saw the original Mamma Mia musical on Broadway three times,” Cher said in a statement. “After filming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking ‘why not do an album of their music?’ The songs were harder to sing than I imagined but I’m so happy with how the music came out. I’m really excited for people to hear it. It’s a perfect time.”
The album was recorded and produced in London and Los Angeles with Cher‘s longtime collaborator Mark Taylor, who previously produced Cher‘s global smash “Believe” which was number one in over 50 countries.
Our first taste of the album is Cher‘s take on “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” an unapologetically glittery romp of pure dance-pop euphoria, packed with stomping beats and, of course, Cher‘s signature, dramatic delivery. It’s pure and utter joy.
