Zayn has already blessed us with “Let Me” and “Entertainer” in the past few months, but despite new singles and visuals, we’ve been hard-pressed for info about the former One Direction crooner’s long-delayed sophomore album.
Following a string of cover releases – Beyoncé‘s “Me, Myself and I,” Elvis‘ “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and Jhené Aiko‘s “Bed Peace,” the British heartthrob returns with yet another brand new single: “Sour Diesel,” an ’80’s-inspired jam, named after the cannabis strain, on which he sings about an intoxicating love.
“Like sour diesel/ I can’t stop the feelin’, yeah/ Can’t stop your feet, no/ Feels like I dream her/ Didn’t feel it seep in/ She burn, she burn, she burn,” Zayn seductively coo’s across the electro-funk, rock fusion. “Like sour diesel (she burn, she burn, she burn)…“
In the accompanying music video (currently only available on Apple Music), which he conceived with director Sing J. Lee, Zayn takes on the role of a vigilante hero. Dressed in a Batman-inspired outfit, he kicks some major butt while facing opponents in the action-packed scenes.
“Sour Diesel” leaves the impression that Zayn isn’t pushing for radio-play this time around, instead, he’s swerving straight into grown man in control territory and carving out a lane in the musical landscape for himself. What do you guys think?
