Shawn Mendes has been dropping anthem after anthem in the lead up to his upcoming self-titled third album, from the Kings of Leon-feeling “In My Blood” to the silky smooth “Lost In Japan” to the Khalid-assisted “Youth.” We’ve yet to hear a dud!
With just a week left to go until the LP drops in full on May 25, Shawn has shared another fresh new album track, “Where Were You in the Morning?” As its title suggests, “Where Were You in the Morning?” is the heartthrob’s melancholy tale of a one-night stand who bailed on him the next morning without so much as a good-bye. “Where were you in the morning baby? / You didn’t leave your number for me / Left me without a warning baby,” he croons across lonesome acoustics and marching beat kicks.
Admittedly, it’s good to hear the 19-year-old crooner finally navigate his sexuality a bit on this mature serenade – even though I find the concept of anyone leaving him dry to be quite hysterical. In what fantasy world does that happen?!?
