John Mayer Returns With A Joyous ’80’s Flare On ‘New Light’!

“Summer bop drop imminent 🌞,” John Mayer teased on Instagram along with a vintage-inspired new promo image (see above).

Just one month after celebrating the one-year anniversary of his seventh studio album The Search For Everything, the Continuum crooner releases a new song called “New Light.” The song, which was produced by hip-hop stalwart No I.D., is not associated with an impending larger project as of yet – but, I think, it’s safe to assume more new music isn’t too far away.

But if you give me just one night/ You’re gonna see me in a new light/ Yeah, if you give me just one night,” John insists across the mesmerizing, ’80’s-inspired swirl of warm beats, disco bass plucks, crashing drums with his silky smooth, echoing vocals. “To meet you underneath the moonlight/ Oh, I want a take two, I want to breakthrough/ I wanna know the real thing about you/ So I can see you in a new light.”

New Light” is very much signature John Mayer at its core, enhanced with an indie-pop flare that brings to mind HAIM, or even Bleachers. It’s fresh and nostalgic all at once, and I’m all about it.

John Mayer’s new single “New Light” is also available on Apple Music and Spotify!
