Years & Years aren’t set to release their highly-anticipated sophomore album Palo Santo until July 6, but today (May 10), the British trio have given us gave fans a proper taste of what’s to come to help tide us over.
We’ve already had our bodies shook with their first teaser “Sanctify” back in March, and now they’re doing it again with the shimmering “If You’re Over Me” – the first “official” single from the upcoming LP.
While the lyrical content may be a bit of an emotional downer, that overall intention of the song is a grin inducing, synth-pop summertime delight. “This is a song about trying to stay friends with an ex. Spoiler alert – it doesn’t often work,” Olly said in a statement. “In fact, in my experience, the relationship often ends up ruined. ‘If You’re Over Me‘ is about the emotional torture that ensues – meeting up and making out, then breaking up all over again, then making out some more.”
I think that’s something we’ve all been through at some-point in our lives. Relatable content wrapped in pop excellence!
