Meghan Trainor is here to keep us dancing with a summer-ready double dose!
If her lead single “No Excuses” wasn’t for you, rest assured – the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is already back at it with even more catchy pop cuts from her upcoming third studio album, which is set to be released later this year. Meghan drops not one, but two new tracks this week: “Let You Be Right” and “Can’t Dance“!
The first song/new single “Let You Be Right,” is a dreamy finger-snapping killer that organically builds along a funky, disco-tinged strut, leading all the way to what is a genuinely instant hook: “I don’t wanna fight tonight/ I’ma let you be right/ I don’t wanna fight tonight/ I’ma let you be right (let you be right)/ We can make up if you just kiss me at the next traffic light/ I don’t wanna fight tonight/ I’ma let you be right (let you be right).” As someone who does his best to back down from a fight in fear of losing someone on the daily, I found this to be very MOOD – but it would be a damn lie if I said Meghan‘s breaking new grounds here. We’ve heard songs like this before. Charlie Puth‘s be on this upbeat, disco-lite wave for well over a year now, as have many of their contemporaries. It’s solid without a doubt. Life-changing it is not.
And then there’s “Can’t Dance,” a slightly more experimental affair as far as production is concerned – the real summer-ready sizzler here. “Even if you can’t dance just hold my hips/ Hold my hands while I roll my hips/ Even if you can’t dance I’ll handle it/ Follow me and don’t stop,” Meghan seductively croons on the sunny dance strut, which infuses some ’90’s R&B flare. It’s infectious, vibe-y and wholeheartedly feels very Meghan Trainor.
The album is already shaping up to be quite the instant earworm affair, but only time will tell if it ends up working in her favor. What do you guys think?
