And now for something unexpected and amazing…
Marvel’s most meta superhero Deadpool has tapped Céline Dion, National Treasure and Queen of blockbuster-movie ballads, to contribute to the upcoming Deadpool 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which is set for release May 18 (the same date as the movie).
The 12-track compilation features only two new original songs recorded exclusively for the film, including “Welcome To The Party” by Diplo, French Montana, Lil Pump and Zhavia Ward, as well as Céline‘s offering “Ashes.”
Produced by pop hit-maker Steve Mac, “Ashes” is exactly what one would hope to come from the woman who brought us countless almighty ballads over the past thirty years, from “The Power Of Love” to “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now“, “My Heart Will Go On“, and “I’m Your Angel“. It’s a straightforward empowerment anthem, pure and simple, all being broken down but rising above in spite of it all.
The song arrives alongside an epic music video packed with every melodramatic trapping imaginable. Céline performs the powerhouse cut on a stage in an empty theater (The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the very venue where Celine hosts her Las Vegas residency shows), while slow-motion footage from Deadpool 2 is interspersed throughout. Halfway through, a string quartet appears on stage, as does Deadpool, who accompanies Dion‘s performance with an interpretive dance routine – in heels, mind you.
THIS IS HOW A SOUNDTRACK SONG IS DONE!
