Lykke Li Kicks Off ‘So Sad So Sexy’ Era With Two New Singles: ‘hard rain’ & ‘deep end’

Lykke Li is back, and she’s all on her own again!

The forward-thinking Swedish singer-songstress, who provided us with some of the decade’s best records in 2008’s Youth Novels, 2011’s Wounded Rhymes, and 2014’s I Never Learn, has returned solo at last after indulging in her supergroup side project liv with her partner Jeff Bhasker, Björn Yttling as well as Miike Snow members Andrew Wyatt and Pontus Winnberg.

hard rain” and “deep end” are the first two tracks Lykke has decided to drop from her forthcoming record, called so sad so sexy, which arrives on June 8. (Same. same. Same)

Based on those titles alone, it’s clear that she’s staying true to using water as a theme in her work. It’s even more obvious when you listen to her softly chant about waves, oceans and rainfall on “hard rain,” but the metaphors are a little more elusive on “deep end,” which compares the process of falling in love with someone to taking a dive in the deep end of a pool despite the risk of getting burned by chlorine.

Sonically, “hard rain” and “deep rain” find Lykke putting her own spin on contemporary R&B-meets-pop trends, laying lush vocals over an array of spacey atmospherics and tripping hi-hats – and yet, this is undeniably the stuff of Lykke Li.

Lykke Li‘s fourth album so sad so sexy is slated to drop on June 8 via RCA Records. The project is stacked with 10 moody songs and includes a feature from Portland rapper Aminé – STAY TUNED!

These songs sound so different from her previous work! I’m excited for “so sad so sexy” though I’m a liiiitle bit apprehensive.
