We’ve had the great privilege of hearing a good portion of CHVRCHES‘ anticipated new album, Love Is Dead, at this point even though it (apparently) isn’t due for release for another month.
The Scottish synth-pop trio have already shared “Get Out,” the Matt Berninger-featuring “My Enemy” and “Never Say Die“. This week, they’ve released yet another single from the upcoming LP, “Miracle” and this one is certainly no exception.
“Ask me no questions, I will tell you no lies, careful what you wish for. We’re looking for angels in the darkest of skies…I’m not asking for a miracle,” CHVRCHES frontwoman Lauren Mayberry demands in the first few lines. This one feels like the biggest pop shift yet, likely in thanks to their collaborator Steve Mac, the mega-producer who’s worked on recent singles from P!nk and Ed Sheeran.
It’s vaguely dubbier than what we’ve heard and comes complete with an Imagine Dragons-like drop. Yeah, I said that. “‘Miracle‘ is the only song from Love Is Dead that we didn’t write and record in the States, instead producing it in London with Steve Mac,” Lauren said in a statement. “Steve is such an intuitive writer with such a killer ear for melody and working with him felt very easy and natural. He makes space for everyone in the room and really pushes people to try things and go outside of their comfort zone, in a good way.”
