Sigrid is our next rising pop starlet to keep your eye on.
Granted, the Norway-bred 21-year-old singer-songwriter already has lots of support going into the New Year: She won the highly coveted BBC Music Sound of 2018 poll, and scored her highest charting single yet with the irresistible “Strangers,” which was featured here as my Song of the Week back in November.
This week, Sigrid shares a precocious new single entitled “Raw,” a song she first debuted via a stripped back acoustic session with BBC back at the start of the year (see below). It’s the first of a five track release set to drop next month.
With the minimalist stuttering rhythm and dollops of synth colour, “Raw” serves as a real treat, rooted in Sigrid‘s earnest vocal. “I just wanna be pure/ You know I’m terrible at putting up a show, oh/ That’s what you wanted me for?/ So I get pissed off when you ask me to be more/ Oh, I just wanna be raw…,” Sigrid croons. It’s joyous but also a little bit sad.
