Seven years have passed since the forever legendary Sade released The Ultimate Collection in 2011, which came a year after 2010’s Solider of Love. They’re not one for back to back releases anymore, but their popularity remains high despite the intermittent release schedule. Sade Adu. Is. Soul Legend.
Now the singer of Nigerian origin and company are finally back with the release of “Flower of the Universe.” The new single is produced by No ID – the talented producer behind gems from Kanye West, Jay-Z, Drake, Nas and Kendrick Lamar – and is part of the soundtrack for Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time by Ava DuVernay, film adaptation of the eponymous fantasy novel of the writer Madeleine L’Enlge.
“I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for WRINKLE IN TIME. It’s entitled ‘Flower of the Universe.’ And it’s a dream come true,” Ava wrote.
A dream it is! As expected, the track stays true to Sade‘s signature ethereal vibe throughout with its rich, soothing vocals, enchanting melodies and lonesome strings. “They hear you when you cry/ This love is far and wide/ When you smile the stars align/ Flower of the universe/ And child of mine…,” she echoes over the intimate electronica.
The release comes packaged alongside a remix by No I.D., which gives it that extra, modern edge some of you may have hoped for.
