“Open up your eyes“: Meghan Trainor is leaping back into action with a brand new single!
It’s been almost two years since the Grammy-winning hit-maker invaded the mainstream with her sophomore album Thank You, but now she’s back with “No Excuses,” our first taste of Round 3. The track, produced alongside JKash and Andrew Wells, finds Meghan grinding up against an array of high-octane dance-pop beats on the sassy, soon-to-be radio smash (it’s inevitable at this point).
“You must’ve confused me, confused me with/ Someone else/ You must’ve confused me, confused me with/ Someone else/ There ain’t no excuses, excuses, babe/ Someone else / Your mama raised you better than that…,” she declares across the swaggering bass lines, bright guitars, and widescreen synths.
While it surely isn’t anything life-changing (it’s a bit generic), I give Meghan props for delivering a song with subtle message encoded in the hook: “Your mama raised you better than that.”
“I love how so many women are standing up for what’s right,” Meghan said in a statement. “I wanted to write us all a powerful anthem. Sometimes, people talk down to me, because I’ve only been doing this for four years, so I wrote this song. It’s my modern version of ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T.’ It’s all about equality and being kind.”
Complementing the single release, Meghan has also shared the official music video for “No Excuses,” shot by Colin Tilley. The high-energy visual brings the words to life as Meghan rocks a variety of colorful looks more confident and charismatic than ever.
