Transgender pop princess on the rise Kim Petras has been dropping pop gem after pop gem ever since the release of her stellar debut “I Don’t Want It At All” back in August – one of my Top 60 Singles of 2017.
Following “Hillside Boys,” “Hills,” “Slow It Down” and the Lil Aaron-assisted “Faded,” Kim drops her new single “Heart To Break” as a special Valentine’s Day (February 14) treat to her fans. The track, which is problematically produced by Dr. Luke and Cirkut, is a shimmering pop confessional complete with bubbling synths and one hell of a euphoric hook.
“Even if it means that I’ll never put myself back together/ Gonna give you my heart to break/ Even if I’ll end up in shatters, baby it doesn’t matter/ Gonna give you my heart to break,” Kim chants across the irresistibly giddy pop production. “I tried to fight, but I can’t help it/ Don’t care if this is my worst mistake/ ‘Cause no one else could do it better.”
It’s a sparkly, flirty piece of joy that is unapologetically sweet like the rest of Kim‘s rapidly growing discography.
“[‘Heart To Break‘] was kind of summing up my heartbreak experiences but making a fun song about them,” Kim told Billboard. “It’s describing the part of you that is about to make a mistake and knows you’re making a mistake, but you don’t care because you still want to jump in and do it.”
