Rising producer Marshmello has had a pretty consistent high-profile single release run over the last year, from “Silence” with Grammy nominee Khalid to “Wolves” with Miss Selena Gomez to last month’s “Spotlight” with late rapper Lil Peep.
His latest collaboration “FRIENDS” finds him teaming up with British darling Anne-Marie, whose also carved out a number of superb solo tracks over the last year as well.
On the shape-shifiting dance-pop gem, Anne-Marie makes her relationship status with a bothersome guy so clear that she literally has to spell it out for him. “Haven’t I made it obvious?/ Haven’t I made it clear?/ Want me to spell it out for you?/ F-R-I-EN-D-S,” she declares.
Eminently catchy, the producer keeps his candy coated basses, neon synth patches and guitar acoustics in tact, melding his signature style with old influences into a satisfying original that is sure to delight fans. It’s a no-brainier collaboration. “FRIENDS” continues Marshmello‘s shift into mainstream pop and Anne-Marie‘s streak of above-average pop songs – WIN!
