Out with the old, in with the new: “In 2018 movin on from Funk Wav sound thank u for joining me on my musical journey haha,” Calvin Harris tweeted at the top of this year. Clavin‘s moving on, and he’s moving on quickly!
The hit-making Scottish producer has just released his first track of the new year titled “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” featuring Canadian Rapper PARTYNEXTDOOR, who he collaborated with on “Cash Out,” an album track on last year’s Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.
The track has a laid back Caribbean vibe that pulls from PARTYNEXTDOOR‘s Jamaican roots throughout: “Mi and di mandem/ We haffi run from half of di gyal dem/ So sweet, so sweet/ Don’t want mi children and tings/ Mi nuh ready fi all dem tings,” he croons across the smooth production, creating the perfect vibe for a chill summer day.
While “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” certainly makes it clear that Calvin isn’t quite ready to return to his electronic roots, it definitely is a catchy effort bound to excite fans who have welcomed his exploration into a more hip-hop soundscape. “I just want to do something totally different that is gonna confuse people but is just gonna ultimately make me so happy” Calvin expressed in his Beats 1 interview. “I’m gonna release more and also I’m taking it one song at a time, but the songs are all gonna be based in dance music, because I love it again. The videos are coming at the same time as the song. You’ll get a lot of my current attitude for that.”
