When in doubt, purposeful pop it out…
Noah Cyrus spent most of last year releasing single after single – from the Labrinth-assisted “Make Me (Cry),” to the boozy “Stay Together,” the country tinged “I’m Stuck,” the emotionally devastating “Almost Famous” to the XXXTentacion-assisted “Again” – until something stuck. In 2018, she’s beginning anew and “We Are..” featuring MØ is our first taste of what’s to come!
Though the track, produced Max Martin, Ali Payami and Savan Kotecha (most of the same team behind Katy Perry‘s “Chained to the Rhythm“), sounds like a soon-to-be teen classic with its easy pulse and athemtic party elements, layered underneath the upbeat veneer, Noah delivers a strong message about social awareness and activism.
“We are fucked/ These days we only follow/ These days we’re feeling hollow/ Get paid, the only motto/ We are fucked,” Noah chants on the chant-ready hook. “They say “It all gets better”/ They say “Won’t last forever”/ Then someone pulls the trigger/ We are fucked.”
I’m all here for a pop song with a message, but I’m not quite sure it works coming from 18-year-old Noah Cyrus. It’s a bit laughable coming from a girl who’s basically the definition of privileged teen. With that said, the song itself really isn’t all that bad. I ain’t 100% mad at it. What do you guys think?
