Justin Timberlake Gets Preachy With Chris Stapleton On ‘Say Something’

Justin Timberlake has been steadily revealing cuts from his upcoming album Man of the Woods week by week. So far, we’ve heard the funky and futuristic “Filthy” and the not-so-good “Supplies.”

And now, it’s time to discuss his much teased collaboration Country singer Chris StapletonSay Something,” the third promotional single off the forthcoming LP due out on February 2, followed by J.T‘s Super Bowl halftime performance on Feb. 4.

Whereas both “Filthy” and “Supplies” felt like they’d be right at home with anything off of FutureSex/LoveSounds and The 20/20 Experience, the acoustic guitar-laden track sees Justin leaning much deeper into his Memphis roots as he trades soulful verses with Chris. “No I can’t help myself, no I can’t help myself, no, no/ Caught up in the rhythm of it,” Justin and Chris repeat on the choir-assisted hook. “Maybe I’m looking something that I can’t have (maybe I’m looking something that I can’t have).”

The song combined with the visual very much gives off this preachy, spiritual exploration vibe throughout – but I’m not quite sure it stands out as anything to rave about. It’s a solid album cut if anything. I’m left wanting more once again, sorry J.T.

You can also stream “Say Something” on Spotify and download it on iTunes now!

thought the same. I wish the track sounded like the video intro .. but as the track starts.. it mellows out and mellow out too much for my taste. as far as the song goes… I was waiting for him to say something.. say anything for that matter. but I liked it more than the 2 ill-faited singles prior.. I can listen to this on repeat.. but those tracks I think weren’t filthy enough and maybe needed more or less supplies in the production.. just sayin’
