Tinashe Indeed Brings The Drama On New Single ‘No Drama’ With Offset

AKA a popstar AKA a problem,” Tinashe declares in the opening lines of her new single “No Drama” featuring Migos rapper Offset – and the statement couldn’t be more on point.

After sitting out for much of 2017 due to endless setbacks, delays and failed singles, Tinashe is finally ready to hit the road again with “No Drama,” the first of a three new songs set to be released as a ‘tringle’ (trio of singles) of sorts: “Me So Bad,” “Faded Love,” and “No Drama.” All reportedly set to be included her long-awaited sophomore album, Joyride.

After trying to find footing on Pop radio with songs like “Superlove” and “Flame,” I’ll admit it’s quite nice to hear Tinashe return to the more hip-hop/R&B-based sound that brought her notoriety circa summer 2014 with “2 On” – her only real hit to date – on “No Drama.”

Don’t want no drama-ma/ We pulled up in that ooh la la (Sk-skrr)/ And backed out in that oh my god (Woo, woo, woo)/ Don’t want no drama-ma,” she declares over the chilled-out, Stargate production. The song comes accompanied with the release of choreography-heavy music video, which easily elevates an otherwise laid back throb and showcases Tinashe at her very best.

The real issue here isn’t so much the sound of the song or the video, but the fact that it once again sees Tinashe joining forces with a problematic male artist (the first being Chris Brown on “Player”). So yes, there is in fact DRAMA. Offset has been making headlines this week for all the wrong reasons. His latest collab with YFN Lucci (“Boss Life“) has a lyric that hears him saying: “I cannot vibe with queers.” Offset has already released a statement clarifying he didn’t mean “gay” when he said “queers,” but the actual literal meaning of the word… and well, it’s just not a good look when your fanbase happens to be a mostly “queer” audience. I AM CONFLICTED. Fix it, Tinashe.

Tinashe’s new single “No Drama” is also available on Apple Music, Amazon and Spotify now!
